Today we present a short summary of the baggage policy of Air France.
Let us find out what you can cram into your bags when travelling with this well-known French carrier.
Air France: carry on baggage
As a Voyageur/Economy class passenger you are entitled to 1 hand-baggage item not exceeding the maximum size of 55 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm (l+w+h). This includes pockets, handles and wheels.
In addition, one is permitted to carry onto the plane 1 personal item such as a handbag, notebook or camera. The total total weight of both items of cabin baggage is: 12 kg or 26.5 lb.
Air France: checked baggage
The checked baggage allowance depends on your route. In most cases you can have 1 item of checked baggage with the maximum weight of 23 kg at no extra charge. It applies to the lion's share of all routes when travelling in the Voyageur/Economy class.
There are some exceptions though. When you travel to or from certain African airports such as Dar es Salaam, Lagos or Nairobi, you can check in a second item of baggage free of charge. The same goes for passengers going to Quito or Guayaquil as well as those whose first part of the trip departs from Brazil. The last-mentioned group of passengers enjoys even more generous weight allowance: 32 kg.
Passengers travelling on routes between some African countries and USA/Canada can also check in a second piece of baggage free of charge. Examples of such countries are: South Africa, Botswana, and Egypt. For a full overview go to the website of Air France.

Hi Ang
Do you mean - take these thing on board? Sugar should not pose a problem. As for wine, I suggest you read about the restrictions on liquids as hand baggage. There is a way around though - you can buy wine in one of the tax-free shops at the airport. Other than that, I'm sure you can order a glass of wine from the stewardess
Hi Nancy,
If this is a connecting flight ordered as one air travel (as opposed to two independently purchased flights), there is no need to check you baggage twice. You simply collect it in Marseilles. If you for some reason miss the CDG-MRS flight, you just call the customer service and get your bag once you arrive in MRS. They are going to take care of uncollected bags anyway.
I have to admit I do not know where exactly the immigration is in CDG.
good luck!
Nancy
I am traveling to Marseilles from Miami connecting in CDG. I only have 1:15 between flights and I need to clear immigration and walk from terminal 2e to 2f. I am told that my bag will be checked through Marseille. Is that correct? what happens if I missed my connecting flight?
Also, do you know if I need to walk outside terminal 2 to go through immigration?
Thanks!

Hello Ahmed Hegazi
Thanks for reading our blog. Well, the baggage policy is quite unambiguous in this respect. If you are travelling on the Egypt - US route in Economy class, you can have 1 item of checked baggage weighing 23 kg at no extra charge. If your daughter is over 2 years old, the same allowance applies to her as well.
regards
Ahmed Hegazi

Hi J. JEFFERY,
I've had a hack of a lot of problems accessing the website of Air France today - it seems to be down all the time since I don't know their regulations by heart, take it with a pinch of salt but: given that you travel in business and that hand baggage is included in the ticket price when travelling with AF in any case, I'd say both bags fall into the checked baggage-category. If you want to be on the safe side, why not call the customer service? But honestly, I'd be surprised if it weren't so.
good luck!
J. JEFFERY
i AM DUE TO FLY ON TUESDAY 8/01/2013 TO SANTIAGO----AF-2581.

Hi Samy,
Personally, I've never experienced any difficulties when transporting foodstuffs. The tricky thing is that these security guys are a very moody breed so theoretically it may happen they'll bother you. It's one of those things you can't predict until they actually happen.
good luck!

Hi Kumar,
Thanks for asking. The general rule is that on flights between Asia and America in economy, the allowance is : 1 baggage item weighing 23 kg maximum each at no extra charge. The question is whether or not all your flight are operated by Air France or not. In case of code-share flights the rules of the parter airline may apply. This is something you need to find out. It should be stated on your e-ticket.
good luck and thanks for reading our blog!
Kumar
I will be travelling from Delhi (india) to Fort Lauderdale (Florida)...

Dear Maria,
It may depend on the cabin class as well as on the route. If you give me some more info, I'll find it out!

Maria
If I have two baggages both 23kg.. My question is how much I have to pay for the second one?
S.B.
Hi Laetitia de Villiers,
Thank you for your question. The baggage rules of Air France are pretty unambiguous on this issue – included in your ticket is 1 item of baggage weighing up to 23 kg when travelling in Voyageur class. If you exceed this limit, you have to pay an extra charge. As for sport equipment, you are allowed to transport it as long as you inform the airline about it in advance. The same rules applies to snowboards as is the case with regular luggage - 23 kg/item. You are permitted to transport in the hold 1 board and 1 pair of boots.
good luck!
Laetitia de Villiers
Can anyone tell me what the cost will be for an extra bag from Cape Town to Prague (snowboard bag)?
Please!
Thank you
Laetitia de Villiers
We are flying from Cape Town to Prague. Is our snowboard bags included in the checked baggage or are we allow for extra bag at no extra cost?

Hej Lars,

Hi Kathy,
If you travel with economy (or Voyageur as they call it in Air France), then what's included in the ticket price is 1 item of checked baggage up to 23 kg and of course your hand baggage (1 standard item and one personal item weighing up to 12 kg altogether).
Good luck!
Kathy Constantino
