Today we start off a new series of articles looking into the check-in options offered by various carriers – both low-cost airlines and traditional carriers.
The airline we would like to begin with is the respected and traditional Dutch-based KLM.
KLM online check-in
It could not be simpler – go to the website of KLM, log in, enter your e-ticket number or booking code. Then enter you name and choose your flight. You can also enter the names of other passengers travelling with you so as to check in a group. Subsequently you can choose your seat and print your boarding card.
Online check-in is available from 30 hours before the scheduled departure time for all flights with the exception of flights to the US – 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure time.
Mobile phone check-in
Got a mobile phone with internet access? Check in on the move! Proceed as is the case when checking in online: go to the official website of the carrier, log in, enter your booking code or e-ticket number. As for your boarding pass, you can receive it in two ways: by e-mail or as a text message. Do not worry if your printer is broken – print your boarding card at the airport until 30 minutes prior to the departure.
Airport check in
Airport check-in may mean either using the self-service check-in machines or being attended to at the counter. When it comes to the machines, the procedure does not differ from the online check-in. The self-service kiosks open at least 2 hours before scheduled departure.
When checking in at the counter, make sure you arrive at the airport in due time. The airport check-in desks open 2 hours or earlier before the scheduled flight departure and they close 30/60 minutes (Europe/intercontinental) before the scheduled flight departure.
As far the hub of KLM – Airport Amsterdam – is concerned, the check-in desks at are open from 05:00 am.
